Use these steps if a Toast receipt printer or kitchen printer has stopped printing. Try each step before reaching out to uPOS.

1 Power cycle the printer
Unplug the power cable from the back of the printer. Also unplug the ethernet cable (the network cable). Wait a full 30 seconds. Plug the ethernet cable back in first, then the power cable. Wait 30–60 seconds for the printer to fully start up — the ready light should become steady.
If this works: Send a test order from Toast — the printer should fire normally.
2 Check all the cables
Make sure both ends of the ethernet cable (the cable going into the wall or a switch) are clicked in firmly. Make sure both ends of the power cable are secure. Check that none of the cables look kinked, cut, or damaged. On kitchen printers, confirm any thumbscrews on the cable port are snug.
If this works: Printer comes online and prints normally.
3 Check the paper roll
Open the printer cover and make sure: the paper roll is present and seated correctly; the paper feeds from the bottom of the roll (the shiny side should face inward toward the printer); there's no jammed or folded paper at the entry. Close the cover firmly until it clicks. Press the Feed button to confirm paper moves through. If it's a kitchen printer printing blank or very faint tickets, the paper may be loaded backwards.
If this works: Printer prints clearly — you're good.
4 Check if the printer shows up in Toast
On any Toast terminal, tap the arrow in the upper-left corner, then go to Setup → Printer Setup. Find the printer in the list and check its status. If it shows "Offline" or doesn't appear at all, the terminal can't reach it on the network. Power cycling the printer and the router/switch at the same time can resolve this.
⚠️ Kitchen printer down during service? If the kitchen printer is offline and you can't fix it quickly, orders can be routed to a different printer temporarily. Call uPOS — we can redirect tickets from our end so service can continue while we sort out the hardware.
Still not working?
Submit a support ticket — we'll take it from there. You don't need to dig any further.
