Use these steps if your Toast terminal is frozen, showing a black screen, or displaying an "Offline Mode" message. Try each step in order before reaching out.

1 Close and reopen the Toast app
On a countertop Flex or Kiosk: slowly swipe up from the very bottom edge of the screen to see your open apps, then swipe the Toast app away to close it. On a handheld Go: press the square button at the bottom, then swipe Toast away. Wait 5 seconds, then tap the Toast icon to reopen it. Give it a full 60–90 seconds to load back up.
If this works: Terminal loads the order screen — you're back in business.
2 Restart the terminal
Hold the power button on the side or top of the device for 5–7 seconds until a menu appears. Tap Restart. If no menu appears, keep holding until the screen goes dark, then press power to turn it back on. Wait a full 2–3 minutes for Toast to reload — it needs time to reconnect.
If this works: Terminal boots up and loads Toast normally.
3 Check the terminal's WiFi connection
Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification bar, then tap the settings gear. Go to Wi-Fi and confirm the terminal is connected to the correct restaurant network — not a guest network. If it's disconnected, tap the network name and reconnect. If it shows connected but Toast is still offline, tap the network → Forget → then reconnect from scratch.
If this works: Terminal reconnects and Toast comes back online.
4 All terminals showing "Offline Mode"? Check the Toast status page
If every terminal is affected and your internet is otherwise working, check status.toasttab.com on any phone or computer. If Toast is showing an active outage, you're not alone — there's nothing to fix on your end. Your terminals can still take orders in offline mode; card payments will queue and process when Toast comes back up.
⚠️ Offline mode and payments: If Toast is in offline mode, card payments may not process in real time. Whether payments queue automatically depends on your setup. For high-dollar orders, consider taking cash until Toast is back online.
Still not working?
